Merry Christmas to you all!

The Christmas Season is upon us. Let's enter into it together with the
Joy and Peace that this season was designed to bring.

December 2005
Food For Thought......

How are you entering this Christmas Season?

At 4:00 a.m. this morning I found myself tossing and turning, thinking of the 10 million things I needed to accomplish. Or should I say WANTED to accomplish. When sleep continued to allude me I decided to get up. After checking my emails I turned on the coffee pot, grabbed my calendar and my Bible and decided to have a little sit down and see if I couldn't get some perspective on the anxiety that was filling me. I already felt better because I was "taking action".

I wrote out my "to do" list on my calendar and again felt better because I had items on a list that I could check off. As I looked at my list I began to wonder......how much of this list HAD to be done and how much did I just feel pressure to get done? Where did all these expectations come from? My husband, children, customers, myself, or God?

Last month I wrote an article entitled "Developing Your WHO". In this article I shared that my life VISION is based on Proverbs 31:25,26. (Click here to read the article Developing Your WHO)
I opened up this passage to remind myself of what I want to be defined as. I certainly do NOT want to be defined as a woman who is running from here to there, too busy to stop and chat and too full of anxiety to enjoy the moment. No, I want to be a woman who's "Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."

If I am smiling at the future how can I be filled with anxiety? My questions is this, how can this Proverbs 31 woman do all the things this scripture speaks about and still smile at the future? How can she NOT be stressed with her weight of responsibility? Well, the answer is this. The key to her beautiful character is her spiritual life. She is a godly woman who reveres and fears the Lord. She fears the Lord with a sense of awe for His power and majesty.

I want to enter this Christmas Season with an awe and reverence for what was given to me on that very first Christmas morning. Would you like to join me?

Recipe Of The Month

Christmas Morning Cinnamon Buns

1 1/2 c granulated sugar 3 T. gound cinnamon
2 pkgs. active dry yeast
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1 c warm water
1 c. warm milk
2/3 c granulated sugar
2/3 c melted butter
2 tsp. salt
Up to 8 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c. melted butter
1 1/2 c pecans, chopped
1/2 c melted butter
1/3 c granulated sugar
4 c powdered sugar
2/3 c melted butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
Up to 6 T hot water

Instructions:

Mix together 1 1/2 cups sugar and the cinnamon and set aside. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tsp sugar in warm water; set aside. In a large bowl mix together mil, sugar, melted butter, salt and eggs. Add yeast mixture and 4 cups of flour to mixture. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to form a slightly stiff dough. Turn dough into a large greased bowl. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down dough and let rest for 5 minutes. Roll dough out onto a floured surface into a 15x20-inch rectangle. Brush 1/2 cup melted butter over dough; sprinkle prepared cinnamon and sugar mixture evenly over dough. Sprinkle nuts evenly over dough if desired Tightly roll up dough and pinch edges together to seal. Cut the roll into 12-15 slices using dental floss or thread. Coat the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with 1/2 cup melted butter. Sprinkle 1/3 cup sugar evenly in the bottom of the pan. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in the prepared pan. Cover pan and allow to rise in warm place for 45 minutes. Bake rolls in a 350 oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. To prepare frosting: Stir together powdered sugar, 2/3 cup melted butter and extracts. Stir in hot water, 1 T at a time, until the glaze reaches desired spreading consistency. Spread prepared icing over slightly cooled rolls. Recipe Note: I make this on Christmas Eve day up until the 45 minute rise. I refrigerate overnight and take out very early Christmas morning. Let them rise for 1 1/2 hours, then bake and ice. By the time it's 8:00 a.m. since we are up at 6:00 a.m. anyway. These are by far the best cinnamon buns I've ever made.
