Food For Thought......

I will persist until I succeed. Always will I take another step. If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult.... I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.
- Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World

I ran across this quote recently and it really spoke to me of what it has taken to achieve the successful business that I have over the last year; small, persistent steps. Yes, there were times when I wanted to stop taking those step and give up. That is the natural course of life. But as I kept my WHY and my WHO (you can view this article at Developing Your WHO ) in front of me I was able to press on.

This is the challenge in life; TO PRESS ON. We have an "instant" society where we want things right now. We say we will give our business three years to be a success, but if after three months we are not seeing any success we give up. I am speaking to myself as well because I have given up on things throughout my life. But when I committed to my Gourmet Candle Business a year ago I decided to give it my all. I am reaping the benefits of that commitment as I see my business taking off.

While running a business you will certainly have times of wanting to quit. In LIFE, you have times of wanting to quit as well; quit your job, quit your marriage, quit your church, quit a friendship, etc. It is during these times that I make sure I do the following:

1. This is the most important step. Seek out advice from those that are having success. Do not expect the advice to come to you. Get around healthy people who have success in the area you feel you are not having success in. All too often we go to those that will sympathize and commiserate with us. Stay away from those people until you are in a better place.

2. Continue to take daily action steps to improve the area of concern. If it is business, then keep moving forward. Make three calls. Hand out three business cards. Keep doing something. I talk to many people who feel so overwhelmed they want to quit. I ask them if they write down daily action steps. Usually they don't. I find much satisfaction in waking up in the morning and making my list of things to do that day; both in business and in my personal life. As I check those things off throughout the day it tells me that I am making progress, that I am moving forward. That is very affirming.

3. Write out your goals and keep them in front of you. Create a picture board of what it is you want in life. Visual reminders are very powerful.
