Food For Thought......

Goal Setting and "God's Will"

Wow! That's a loaded title, isn't it? I knew it would grab your attention. This topic has truly grabbed my attention for the last 14 months.

It was 15 months ago that I became a business owner and entered the netw ork marketing world. Before I made this change in my life I had never set many goals. I basically blew with the wind wherever I felt God was sending me. The process of "blowing in with the wind" appeared pretty effective for I had experienced a great deal in my life. I was now, however in another world, and this world was exposing me to a whole new way of thinking.

I began to hear the phrases, "vision casting", and "goal setting" quite frequently. When I heard these phrases they did not set well with me. My mind immediately rejected them. If I envision what I want my life to look like and then set goals to get it there, would I be placing too much emphasis on material things and wouldn’t I be trying to direct God’s will for my life? To many this may sound like a crazy thought process, but I have a feeling there are others who relate to this way of thinking.

A person’s thought life has a great deal of impact in how one lives out their life. It either builds into or tears down, causing a person to respond positively or negatively. If our thought life is telling us it is wrong to set goals, or to envision the best for our lives because that might not be what God has for us, is this not hampering us from actually being all we can be? Are we not actually limiting what God can do in our lives? I am beginning to think that my lack of goal setting and looking into the future at what I really would like out of life, has kept me from experiencing so much more of what God actually had for me. I’ve had a great life, but how much more could I have accomplished for Him if I had set my vision on greater heights.

Based on this new understanding I have allowed myself to do some vision casting and set some goals. I know that my life is in God’s hands and that His will is my will. However, I now have a clear vision of where I would like to see my life in one year, five years, and ten years. I have set goals that will allow for those visions. These goals and visions are not all material goals. I have spiritual, physical, financial and emotional goals. Goal setting and God’s will, can they co-exist? You bet! Creating goals will enable me to work towards creating a life that I envision will allow me to serve God at my fullest.

Recipe Of The Month

COCONUT MACAROONS
Goes great with your Coconut Macaroon COTM candle.

(Makes 22-24 medium sized cookies.)

1 14-ounce package sweetened flaked coconut
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 teaspoon each of rum, vanilla and almond extracts
3 large egg whites (best at room temperature)
1 teaspooon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line, but do not grease 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine the flaked coconut, sweetened condensed milk and flavorings, stirring well to blend.

In another bowl, use an electric mixer on medium high speed to beat the egg whites, cream of tartar and salt into a mixture that holds a medium-firm peak.

Fold about half of the egg whites into coconut mixture to lighten, then fold in the remaining egg whites.

Using half the macaroon mixture, drop it by level tablespoonfuls onto the parchment-lined baking sheets. Space the cookies about 2 inches apart. Top each mound with tablespoonful of the coconut mixture, mounding it evenly over the first.

Bake these cookies until golden along the edges or about 25 minutes. Slide parchment paper with the macaroons still on them onto large racks to cool for at least half an hour. Store the coconut macaroons in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature. These don't keep long ~ but they don't need to, they're so good!
