Food For Thought......

"You Are So Much Like Your Mother!"

I wonder what those words mean to you. I wonder what those words will mean to my own children.

When someone says "You are so much like your mother!" I get a warm feeling in my heart and form a huge smile upon my face.

Even though my husband usually says this to me when I have created some strange concoction in the kitchen by "improvising", it still brings a smile to my face.

My mother's name is Joy and I've always marveled at what a perfect name that was for her. Spreading rays of joy and sunshine wherever she walks. There is an acronym for JOY and it is Jesus, Others, You. My mother lives by that. Her relationship with Jesus has always come first. This has given her the strength and wisdom to then meet the needs of Others, her 5 girls, husband, and friends and then finally You, herself. Sometimes I felt she needed to put taking care of herself above others, but that was not what JOY was all about.

My mother has the gift of listening with her heart, not just with her ears. My mother has love that acts, not love that just talks. My mother has a servant's heart, not just servant's hands. She has a tongue far quicker to praise and pray than to judge and criticize. And when she fails or sees others fail she is quick to remember that all forgiveness comes from Jesus so she must forgive too.

When I read Proverbs 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. I think of my mother, JOY.

Oh, that my children can say the same thing about me.........

To help me in my journey to be a mom that brings JOY, I have read all of these books and highly recommend them.
