Food For Thought......

ARE YOU LIVING WITH A MUFFIN TOP?

It's been here for four years now; the muffin top! It came out of nowhere and was here before I even knew it was coming. Are you living with one too?

Oh, you are asking, "What is the muffin top?" It is that slightly poochy rim around your waste. On a muffin it is that ledge (that I love to devour) that protrudes out over the muffin base. Are you getting the picture? If not, see picture below. You are probably having visions right now of the many muffin tops you view daily as tight shirts and low waste lined pants appear to be in. Or, if you are like me, you can just look in the mirror.

Did your muffin top appear out of nowhere? I swear mine did. At forty it was just all of a sudden there. My eating habits didn't really change. My exercise didn't really change. So why did it arrive?

I did a search on-line and could not find anything to support my theory that the muffin top just arrived. :o) But I did find this write up - "A common weight change in middle aged women is where they carry their weight. Weight often moves to the hips and abdomen. The waist often thickens, muscle mass is lost, the breasts may lose fat and fat tissue elsewhere may increase. Because your metabolism is slowing as you age, your body no longer needs as much food as you once ate—it takes longer to burn the same amount of calories. If you are in a high-risk bracket for overweight or obesity, this time in your life is especially important for weight management.

So I AM normal. Fortunately I also have the control to make the best of it. I did further research and found an incredible site that is helping me become more informed, which in turn, is helping me become healthier. http://www.fitnessmagazine.com. This is an incredible site. It isn't full of information that makes you feel guilty, but rather, information that you can adapt to fit your personal style, needs and wants.

One great tool I have found on this site is a tool to determine what calorie intake I should be taking based on my height, age, weight and activity level. If you want to loose a few pounds you just change your weight and it lets you know what the calorie intake should be for that weight. I am a snacker. While I don't eat huge portions, I eat a lot of little ones. I realized that I was taking in a LOT more calories than I thought. So maybe the muffin top didn't just appear out of nowhere.....

Do you work at a desk? Make sure you check out the 5 Minute Yoga Desk Routine. You'll find it under Yoga & Pilates. Great way to keep the blook flowing.

As I've become more informed, I've become healthier. I didn't have to go on a big diet or work out more. I just needed to become aware of what and how much I was taking in and also adjust the type of work out I was doing to attack the areas that needed it most (the muffin top).

It is important to remember that you were created in the image of God and all that He created was Good! So love who you are and take care of who you are.
