Thought...... I am in the gourmet candle business so "scents" are really important to me. I walk into a place and I instantly get a sense for what kind of environment it is based on the aroma I take in. Recently I walked into our orthodontist office and wanted to walk right back out. I was so overcome by the antiseptic smell that I had to check myself to make sure my face did not show what I was feeling. I sent my son back to the car to grab a catalog on my candles. I definitely felt I was doing them a favor by offering them an opportunity to change the aroma of their office. (smile) As I think back to that orthodontist visit I have wondered what kind of "aroma" people sense when I walk in or out of a room. What kind of aroma do I project? Obviously, I don't necessarily mean a "scent" aroma (although I hope that is not displeasing either). What I am talking about is what does my interaction and my personality offer to those I encounter in the way of a "sweet smelling aroma." Does my presence bring a smile? Does my presence make them feel better about themselves? Or, do I bring a frown on their face? Do I cause them to doubt themselves. Or, do I bring nothing to their lives? This Christmas Season I encourage you to think about your aroma. Here are a few ways to leave a “sweet smelling aroma”: 1. Let someone go in front of you in line. 2. Say a blessing for the person who cut you off on the road. 3. Let someone else have the best parking spot at the mall 4. Look the cashier in the eyes and smile. 5. Listen to their answer when you ask, “How are you?” 6. Telephone, write a letter, drop a note, or send a gift to someone out of the blue. 7. Forgive 8. Show mercy and grace May you and your family experience the love and blessings that this Christmas Season brings. Start the web of kindness today. Is the joy that comes back to you. And the more you spend in blessing The poor and lonely and sad, The more of your heart's possessing Returns to make you glad. - John Greenleaf Whittier Recommended
