MY MOTHER IS A PIPE
Yes, my mother is a pipe. Are you?
I'm sure you are wondering why in the world I am comparing my mother to a pipe and not a beautiful flower, or some other form of beauty. Well to me, she is a pipe. Hang with me as I explain.
Imagine you are incredibly thirsty. You are so parched your lips are cracking and your tongue feels like a dry cotton ball. You come upon an old, rusty bucket that is almost filled to the brim with water. There is a thin greenish film settled on the top of the water that gives you a hint it has been setting there a while. Next to it is a pipe that has fresh rainwater flowing through it. Water comes in and water comes out. It purifies itself as it flows. Which one of these are you more likely to quench your thirst with; the stagnant water in the bucket or the flowing water coming out of the pipe. I'm guessing the pipe.
The bucket has no way for the water to flow through it. The water will very slowly evaporate unless it is knocked over, a rusty whole forms, or someone picks it up, empties it and fills it up again. The water in the bucket is stagnant.
The pipe has a way for water to flow through it. It has a whole at both ends. Water may come in and water may go out. Water cannot get stagnant in a pipe. It flows through.
My mother is like this pipe. She has never been one to hold things to herself. She continually allows her love, her words and her actions to flow through her pipe and refresh others. I've shared with you before that her name is JOY. So fitting as her focus in life is Jesus, Others, You (herself).
Even as my mother has begun to struggle with arthritis which prevents her from doing for others in the capacity she has been used to, her home is an open door for those who need her shelter and her love. She almost daily sends her five daughters an email with love, inspiration, humor and tales of her day. She asks nothing from us other than to be able to love on us and pray for us.
We all need pipes in our lives. The buckets rob us of fresh water that replenishes and heals.
I encourage you to be a pipe today to those around you. Allow the good in life to flow through you and bless others.

Recipe ingredients:
1 Large Oatmeal Cookie
1 Cup of your favorite berries
Whip Cream
Recipe directions:
1. Wash berries and put in pretty bowl
2. Crumble Oatmeal Cookie over berries
3. Top with whipping cream
